Comparing Student-Constructed Open Learner Model Presentations to the Domain

چکیده
Increasingly, learning environments are opening the learner model to the user it represents. This paper describes a study in which students were able to create their own presentations of their learner model. We examine the nature of the learner model views created, and the degree of correspondence with the domain. Our results suggest learners have different preferences for the type of view they would like to create, and in many cases use informal or unstructured representational systems.

Helping Learners to Understand Themselves with a Learner Model Open to Students, Peers and Instructors
This paper introduces work in progress on an open student model designed to help learners to better understand their learning. The aim of the system is to investigate issues relevant to open learner models in a large-scale, real use context. This will be achieved initially through the deployment of a simple, domain-independent system. The student model is inspectable by the student it represent...
متن کاملComparing learner community behavior in multiple presentations of a Massive Open Online Course
Massive Online Open Courses (MOOCs) can create large scale communities of learners who collaborate, interact and discuss learning materials and activities. MOOCs are often delivered multiple times with similar content to different cohorts of learners. However, research into the differences of learner communication, behavior and expectation between multiple presentations is scarce. This is of im...
متن کاملToward Adaptive Presentations of Student Models in eLearning Environments
In this paper we report our work on introducing adaptations of the learner model’s presentation in adaptive educational systems, in order to bring a healthy balance between the understanding of Open Learner Models (OLM) and the cognitive load on the student for its interpretation. We believe that enhancing this aspect is useful to empower the learner’s metacognitive processes.
متن کاملSome Unusual Open Learner Models
Open learner models to facilitate reflection are becoming more common in adaptive learning environments. There are a variety of approaches to presenting the learner model to the student, and for the student to interact with their open learner model, as the requirements for an open learner model will vary depending on the aims of the system. In this paper we extend existing approaches yet furthe...
متن کاملBringing chatbots into education: Towards natural language negotiation of open learner models
There is an extensive body of work on Intelligent Tutoring Systems: computer environments for education, teaching and training that adapt to the needs of the individual learner. Work on personalisation and adaptivity has included research into allowing the student user to enhance the system’s adaptivity by improving the accuracy of the underlying learner model. Open Learner Modelling, where the...
